GranuFlo Heart Attack Lawsuits Mount
If you or a loved one were treated with GranuFlo or NaturaLyte and suffered a dialysis heart attack afterward, you may be eligible to file a GranuFlo lawsuit. These acid concentrates manufactured by Fresenius USA have been linked to a series of life-threatening heart problems and even sudden cardiac death.
Granuflo heart attacks, sudden cardiac death, cardiovascular death, cardiopulmonary arrests, and other catastrophic heart injuries have been named in GranuFlo lawsuits, which say the company failed to warn about the risks associated with the dialysis drugs.
The above side effects usually manifest within 48 hours of the drug being administered. GranuFlo and NaturaLyte are acid concentrates that are used to neutralize the acid that builds up during dialysis treatments.
Dialysis and Heart Failure Lead to GranuFlo Lawsuits
After the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) became aware of the growing number of dialysis heart attacks named incomplaints filed over this drug, the agency took action in June 2012 by issuing a GranuFlo recall. Class I is the most serious category of FDA recall, and is only issued when the agency deems there to be a high likelihood of a product causing serious side effects and/or death.
Following this announcement, the FDA has continued to investigate the connection between dialysis and heart failure in relation to NaturaLyte and GranuFlo.
The same month this recall was issued, the agency anonymously received a copy of an internal memo sent in November 2011 by Fresenius USA. The note warned doctors practicing in its clinics of the possibility that improper administration of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte may have led to a sudden spike in heart failure-related deaths. According to lawsuits citing GranuFlo heart attacks, 900 deaths had been linked to the medication.
According to a report published Jun. 14, 2012, Fresenius Medical Care is the leading supplier of dialysis machines and disposable products used in clinics other than its own.
The company also treats a third of the estimated 400,000 Americans who receive dialysis treatments.
As of December 2012, 11 GranuFlo lawsuits were pending in federal court.
